ST PAUL, Minn. -- The Illinois State men' and women's cross country teams battled rain and a hilly Lee Bolstad cross country course at the 28th annual Roy Griak Invitational Saturday afternoon.
The men' team finished 18th overall with 493 team points, while the Redbird women finished in 12th-place with a low score of 381 points.
Ryan Rutherford crossed the finish line first for the Redbirds with an 8K time of 24:46 to earn 16th-place overall.
Jeff Bajema was next in line for the Redbird men finishing with a time of 25:54. Not far behind Bajema, were Dave Eckhart and Tyler Morse who finished with times of 26:02 and 26:09, respectively. Sean Senf rounded out the Redbird top-five as he finished with an 8K time of 26:15.
Rachael Brewer finished first for the Redbird women with a 6K time of 21:33 to earn a 25th-place finish overall.
Kelly McShea notched a 6K time of 22:16 to finish 62nd, while Haley Goers crossed the finish line next for the Redbirds with a time of 22:24. Kristen Zillmer was right behind Goers, capturing a time of 22:35, and rounding out the Redbird top-five was Kim Christensen who finished with a 6K time of 23:08.
Both teams return to action Friday, Oct. 4, as they travel across town to Illinois Wesleyan to run in the Titan Invite slated to begin at 4 p.m.
