Jordan Fahel, Kyle Meihofer and Parker Freiburg are tied for eighth place with a 1-under-par score of 71 and are leading the Illinois State men's golf team Sunday at the Badger Invitational through one round. The Redbirds are tied for third with a team score of 287.

Head coach Ray Kralis is pleased with the performance, but is well aware there is still a long road ahead.

"We had a solid team effort to put us right in the mix," Kralis said. "The conditions were ideal making it rough to create much separation in the field. So, we'll need another strong effort Monday. There is still a long way to go, and we need to stay focused on what we can control and continue to trust in our abilities."

Along with teammates Fahel, Meihofer and Freiburg, Wils Hawn scored a 74 and is tied for 38th, while Josh Edison carded an 81.

After the first day of competition, South Carolina sits in first place with a team score of 282, while USC- Upstate is in second with a score of 286. South Carolina's Caleb Sturgeon is in first, after finishing with a 65, while Matt Gerard of Xaiver is in second with a score of 69.

The Redbirds will continue competition Monday with a 9:30 a.m., shotgun start.
