NORMAL, Ill. - After two rounds of play, the Illinois State women's golf team sits in fifth place with a team score of 602 (297-305), driven by an exceptional performance from junior Hayley Guyton at the Redbird Invitational Sunday at the Weibring Golf Club.

Head Coach Darby Sligh felt that her team got off to a strong start for the season and is proud of Guyton.

"We had a solid opening to our season with all eight players at 78 or below in the first round," Sligh explained. "297 is one of our lowest starts to date, and Hayley led us all day long. Her hard work is beginning to pay off. We need to throw down a low round tomorrow to be in the running with the strong scores posted to by the rest of the field."

In the first round, Guyton shot a 1-under-par (71), while totaling a score of 75 in the second round for a two-round score of 146. Senior Rachel Powers also had a solid performance by carding a score of 153 (74-75), which puts her in a tie for 14th place.

Senior Brianna Cooper shot a two-round score of 153 (75-78), shooting one stroke better than senior Carlee Cossell, who finished the day with a score of 154 (77-77). Cooper and Cossell tied for 24th and 27th places, respectively. Rounding out the Redbird lineup was sophomore Courtnee Cossell, who shot 156 (78-78).

Freshman Renee Solberg led the Redbirds in individual gameplay with a score of 156 (76-80). Senior Jordyn Wyzgowski (73-84), who shot an eagle in the first round on 18, and freshman Maggie Ambrose (78-79) both shot a 157, tying for 44th place.

ISU looks to score a victory in the third and final round of play Monday, beginning at 8:30 a.m., with a shotgun start.
