ST. LOUIS -- Illinois State cross country senior Kim Christensen took home Missouri Valley Conference cross country athlete of the week honors, as announced by the league office Tuesday afternoon.
Christensen was one of four Redbird women that came within the top-30 Friday evening at the Bradley Classic. The Orland Park, Illinois, native led the way for Illinois State, finishing with an eight-second personal-best 6,000-meter time of 21:16 and notching an eighth-place overall finish, helping the women's team to a third-place overall finish. Christensen competed with the best, racing against teams from Illinois, South Dakota, Marquette, Missouri, South Dakota State and Northern Illinois. She now holds the second-best 6K time in the Valley.
The Illinois State cross country team is back in action Friday, Oct. 24, as it travels east to Champaign for the Illini Open. Race time is slated for 4 p.m.
