NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State volleyball team will look to remain perfect in Missouri Valley Conference play when it hosts a much-improved Indiana State squad Friday at Redbird Arena. The match begins at 7 p.m.
Illinois State (17-5, 11-0 MVC) has a two-match lead on first place in the MVC, while Indiana State (15-8, 7-4 MVC) is in fifth place in the league standings. The Sycamores, however, are enjoying their best season in nearly 20 years, and have already posted more wins this season than any Indiana State team since 1996.
The Redbirds, meanwhile, have won 13-consecutive matches overall and 11-straight in Valley play. The overall winning streak is tied for the eighth-best in program history, while the 11-0 start in league play is the program's second-best start to an MVC season. Illinois State's best start – a 12-0 record to open the MVC campaign in 1993 – can be matched with a win Friday night.
"We're excited to be back on our home court and are looking forward to a competitive match this Friday," Illinois State head coach Melissa Myers said.
Illinois State owns a 54-8 edge in the all-time series with Indiana State and claimed a 3-0 win over the Sycamores in Terre Haute, Indiana, on Oct. 3.
Friday's match is the Redbirds' only match of the weekend. Reggie's Kids Club members will be admitted free of charge and trick-or-treating will be offered, with free candy and prizes, at five stations on the Redbird Arena concourse between 6-7 p.m.
