NORMAL, Ill. – Former Illinois State men's basketball great Tarise Bryson was inducted into the 41st class of the ISU Athletics Percy Family Hall of Fame Saturday morning, at a ceremony conducted at the Bone Student Center during 2014 ISU Homecoming festivities.
An All-America Honorable Mention in 2001 and the 2001 Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year, Bryson was named an All-MVC First-Team selection in 2000 and 2001, after garnering second-team accolades while earning MVC Newcomer of the Year recognition in 1999.
Bryson ranks No. 7 on the Illinois State career-scoring list with 1,736 points, and he joined Doug Collins and Rick Lamb as one of three players to lead the team in scoring for three-consecutive seasons.
Bryson currently ranks No. 3 in single-season points, and he led the league in scoring and ranked fourth nationally during the 2000-01 season. Bryson also holds the ISU record for made-free throws in a career, in a season and in a game. He began the 2001-02 season as the nation's No. 1 returning scorer, but had his senior year cut short after sustaining a broken wrist in the season-opener.
Illinois State Athletics Percy Family Hall of Famer and "Voice of the Redbirds" Dick Luedke served as emcee for Saturday's event, which featured remarks and well-wishes from Illinois State University President Dr. Larry Dietz and ISU Director of Athletics Larry Lyons.
The inductees were celebrated with by family, friends, former teammates and coaches, as they joined the ranks of Illinois State's greatest student-athletes, coaches, administrators and contributors.
