INDIANAPOLIS – Redshirt senior guard Bobby Hunter is one of 98 NCAA Division I men's basketball student-athletes nominated for the 2015 Allstate NABC Good Works Team, as announced by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Wednesday morning.
In the community, Hunter has gone above and beyond to make a difference. Hunter's career-goal is to work as a youth mentor, and he has already taken it upon himself to volunteer with Easter Seals Disability Services. Hunter has also participated in multiple outreach events with the Illinois State men's basketball team during his two years at ISU, totaling nearly 13 volunteer-hours.
In the classroom, Hunter has also excelled. A two-time AFNI Honor Roll honoree in his first two semesters at Illinois State, Hunter has a 3.0 cumulative grade-point average (GPA) in University Studies, after amassing a 3.0 in each of his two semesters.
On the court this season, Hunter is averaging 11.2 points per game while shooting 22-for-43 (51.2 percent) from the field and 11-for-20 (55 percent) from beyond the arc. The Reno, Nevada, native recently achieved a career high, with 23 points versus Seton Hall (Nov. 24), followed by 20 points against Youngstown State (Nov. 29).
The prestigious NABC Good Works Team honor recognizes a distinguished group of student-athletes who have demonstrated a commitment to enriching the lives of others and contributing to the greater good in their communities. College sports information directors and basketball coaches across the country nominated players who exhibit exceptional leadership skills and an unwavering commitment to volunteerism.
From the 158 NABC nominees and 93 WBCA nominees, distinguished voting panels will select two 10-member teams comprised of five student-athletes from the NCAA Division I level and five student-athletes from NCAA Divisions II, III and the NAIA. The final roster of 20 award recipients will be unveiled in February.
