NORMAL, Ill. - The Redbirds continue their road swing at Missouri State Sunday. The game is scheduled for 2:05 p.m., and can be seen on ESPN3 and ESPN Full Court.
ISU won its lone game last weekend over Indiana State, 53-50. Stekara Hall scored a career-high 26 points and Illinois State erased an eight point second-half deficit to topple Indiana State. The Redbirds have now won two of their last three games to return to .500 in MVC play.
Hall led all scorers with 26 points, while Chloe Nelson added 10 for Illinois State. The Redbirds shot 40 percent (10-of-25) from the floor in the second half and outscored Indiana State 33-27 over the game’s final 20 minutes to secure the come-from-behind win.
ILLINOIS STATE-EVANSVILLE SERIES
Illinois State leads the all-time series with Evansville, 27-13. The series began when Evansville joined the Valley in 1995, with ISU winning the first eight meetings. Illinois State holds a slight 19-13 advantage since then, including 16 wins in the last 17 games. The Redbirds are 11-8 all-time against the Purple Aces in Normal, Ill. ISU fell to UE at home last year on Jan. 17 by 14 points.
FLASHBACK: JAN. 19 ILLINOIS STATE 78, EVANSVILLE 54
ISU shot a season-best 54 percent from the field, as six Redbirds scored in double figures in the 78-54 victory over Evansville at the Ford Center. The last time six players recorded double-digit scoring performances in a game was Dec. 6, 2008 against Eastern Michigan. Chloe Nelson led ISU with 13 points, while Mackenzie Freeman added a career-best 12 points, all coming from beyond the three-point line. Zenobia Bess, Octavia Crump, Stekara Hall and Kalyn Gebhardt all tallied 10 points in ISU’s second-straight win. The 10 points for Bess and Gebhardt set and tied a career-high, respectively. Hall led all players with eight boards, setting a career high, as Nelson pulled down seven and Taylor Stewart had a career-high six rebounds. All nine Redbirds in the game grabbed a rebound.
ILLINOIS STATE-SOUTHERN ILLINOIS SERIES
Illinois State leads the all-time series with Southern Illinois, 53-38. In the longest running series in school history, Illinois State has played Southern Illinois annually since 1972. The Redbirds went 22-5 against the Salukis through 1985. After that, SIU posted a 29-13 record in the series, including a string of 12-straight wins. The Redbirds have won 12-straight over the Salukis. Illinois State holds a 28-19 advantage of games played in Normal, Ill., the last time ISU lost to SIU at home was March 6, 2008, when the Salukis grabbed a three-point victory.

Illinois. 76-59. Crump shot 7-of-9 from the field and was a perfect 6-of-6 at the free throw line. Chloe Nelson added 19 points, while Stekara Hall contributed 11 points, as nine Redbirds scored in the game. Illinois State shot 49 percent from the field for its best shooting performance of the season, and Southern Illinois connected on 43 percent of its shots. ISU pulled down 35 rebounds, nine more than SIU’s 26. Alison Seberger led the Redbirds on the boards, pulling down eight rebounds, which tied a career high, while
Hall and Lindsay Smith both recorded four steals. ISU dominated the paint, scoring 42 points, including 17 second-chance points.

Illinois State invites you to spend your Valentine’s Day with the Redbirds Friday night, as ISU takes on the Evansville Purple Aces at 7:05 p.m. Sodexo concessions will feature special items, including a chocolate fondue fountain with dipping treats to enjoy. Included in the allotment of items available to cover with chocolate from the fondue fountain are strawberries for $2, and $1 pineapple slices, rice krispie treats and marshmallows. There will also be a ‘Kiss Cam’ during the game.

Sophomore Stekara Hall had a career-high night in ISU’s 53-50 win over Indiana State (Feb. 7). She netted a career-high 26 points, shooting 62 percent from the field (8-of-13), with 18 points coming in the second half. It is the second time this season and the second time in her career she has scored 20-plus points. She also sank 10 free throws out of 13 attempts, setting career-highs at the line. She pulled down four rebounds and had a steal in 34 minutes. In Valley play, she is averaging 10.9 points per game, connecting on 43 percent of her shots from the field. On the season, she is second on the team in assists (31) and is one of four Redbirds with 23 steals on the season, which is the most for ISU.
ALL STARTERS
In ISU’s 53-50 win over Indiana State (Feb. 7) only five players scored in the contest, as the Redbird starters were responsible for all of ISU’s points. It is the third time this season that only the ISU starters have scored. The last two times came in back-to-back games against Florida (Nov. 29) and Penn State (Nov. 30) at the Junkanoo Jam. Against the Sycamores, Illinois State was led by Stekara Hall, who had a career-high 26 points. Chloe Nelson was the only other Redbird in double-figures with 10 points.
A BETTER SECOND HALF
In the first half of play against the Sycamores, the Redbirds connected on 26 percent of their shot attempts, for 20 halftime points. Then, in the second half, Illinois State regrouped and went 10-of-25 from the field, connecting on 40 percent of its shot attempts for 33 second-half points. Free throws proved to be the difference in the game, as ISU went 20-of-29 from the charity stripe, while Indiana State was 5-of-9. The Redbirds had 12 fouls in the game, while the Sycamores had 24. The 12 Redbird fouls were the second fewest by ISU this season, while the 20 made free throws were the second most by the Redbirds this season.
