King Named MIC Specialist of the Week

Feb. 26, 2014

NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois State junior Sami King finished in the top spot in two events Friday night in a quad meet with UIC, Northern Illinois and Illinois. She scored a career-best 9.925 to win the floor exercise and also won the balance beam competition by posting a 9.825 to tie her season-high. For her efforts, she was named Midwest Independent Conference (MIC) Specialist of the week by the conference office Wednesday.

The weekly award is the third for King in her career at ISU. The Canton, Mich. native was named MIC Gymnast of the week after one week during her freshman year season after she won the all-around competition in her first collegiate meet. Last season, King was awarded MIC Gymnast of the week after winning the all-around competition against Lindenwood and Northern Illinois in one weekend. Joining King as weekly honoree was Catherine Dion, of UIC, who was named MIC Gymnast of the week for her all-around performance in the annual Illinois Classic.

King and her teammates will return to action Saturday, March 1, when they host Penn in the annual PINK meet at Horton Field House at 4:00 p.m. Additionally, Illinois State will honor three Redbird seniors at their home dual-meet finale.
