NORMAL, Ill. - The Redbirds welcome Loyola Sunday at 2:05 p.m., in their home finale of the regular season. At the conclusion of the game, Illinois State will recognize seniors Chloe Nelson and Alison Seberger.

Illinois State sank 25 free throws in the second half on its way to a 66-57 victory over Missouri State Sunday at JQH Arena. For the game, the Redbirds shot 28-of-39 from the free throw line, setting a season-high made free throws. The free throws helped ISU score 44 second-half points, the most points scored by ISU in a half this season.

Lindsay Smith, who shot a perfect 10-of-10 from the free throw line, scored a career-high 15 points all coming in the second half. Chloe Nelson also netted 15 points, while Katy Winge added 11 points, shooting 5-of-8 from the field. ISU was led by Octavia Crumpon the boards, as she pulled down seven. ISU grabbed 43 rebounds, nine more than MSU.

Illinois State leads the all-time series with Loyola, 6-0. Illinois State leads the all-time series with Bradley, 45-19, since 1984.

ILLINOIS STATE-LOYOLA SERIES
Illinois State leads the all-time series with Loyola, 6-0. The two teams have not met since the 2007-08 season, when ISU defeated the Ramblers, 82-51, at Redbird Arena. The first game of the series was played on March 2, 1978. The two teams faced off for four-straight seasons from 2004 through the 2008 season. ISU holds a 2-0 advantage of games played in Normal, Ill.

FlashBack: Jan. 31 Illinois State 65, Loyola 54
Ten second half points by Katy Winge led Illinois State over Loyola, 65-54, at Gentile Arena. Winge scored 13 points, shooting 5-of-9 in the win and dished out three assists in 31 minutes. ISU connected on 51 percent of its shots, including 46 percent from three-point range, as both set season highs for the Redbirds. Octavia Crump added 12 points and eight rebounds, while Kalyn Gebhardt connected for a career-high 11 points. Gebhardt was 4-of-6 from the field and pulled down a career-high six boards. Stekara Hall scored nine points and four assists, and Chloe Nelson added seven points. Illinois State had 30 points from bench players and 14 points off of turnovers. The Redbirds pulled down 40 rebounds, nine more than the Ramblers.

ILLINOIS STATE-BRADLEY SERIES
Illinois State leads the all-time series with Bradley, 45-19, since 1984. The two teams have met at least twice each year since 1984. While Bradley has never won more than two-consecutive games over ISU, the Redbirds have five winning streaks of at least four games. Bradley snapped a 15-game winning streak by Illinois State on March 7 that dated back to 2006, with 11 of those wins coming by double-digits. Last season, the Redbirds and the Braves met twice with the most recent meeting coming in the conference tournament, when ISU defeated BU, 59-48. Illinois State has the advantage of games played at Normal, 23-7.

FlashBack: Feb. 2 Illinois State 62, Bradley 64
Octavia Crump had a career night thanks to a stellar second-half performance, but her effort wasn’t enough as Illinois State fell to Bradley, 64-62, at the Renaissance Coliseum. Crump set a career-high in both points and rebounds with 21 and 15, respectively. The sophomore forward had 17 second-half points and 10 offensive rebounds. Lindsay Smith was the only other Redbird in double figures with 10 points, while Stekara Hall added nine and Zenobia Bess had eight points. Smith pulled down six rebounds and Hall grabbed five. The Redbirds shot 36 percent from the field, while the Braves sank 44 percent of their shot attempts. ISU had the advantage on the boards, collecting 40 rebounds, as BU grabbed 37. Illinois State had 36 points in the paint and 16 second chance points, but struggled from three-point range.

AT THE LINE

Illinois State was led by Lindsay Smith, who was a perfect 10-of-10 at the free throw line on her way to scoring a career-high 15 points, all of which came in the second half.

Only the second time
At halftime of Sunday’s game (Feb. 23) against Missouri State, the Redbirds were trailing by five points, 27-22. When down going into the locker room at the break, the Redbirds had a record of 1-13, but on Sunday, ISU improved that record to 2-13. Illinois State shot 43 percent from the field and 83 percent from the free throw line in the victory. The only other time the Redbirds came back to win after trailing at halftime was against Indiana State (Feb. 7). The Redbirds were trailing the Sycamores by three at the half and ended up winning the game by three, 53-50.

Scoring smith
A perfect 10-of-10 performance at the free throw line set career-highs, as transfer Lindsay Smith netted a career-high 15 points Sunday (Feb. 23) at Missouri State. All of Smith’s points came in the second half, including a jumper and a three, as she led the Redbirds to a 66-57 win over the Lady Bears, after trailing by five at half time. Her efforts helped the team to scored 44 second-half points, the second-most by the Redbirds in a half this season. Smith also pulled down six rebounds, three at each end of the court, and had an assist in 24 minutes of play. During the conference season, Smith is averaging 9.1 points per game and is shooting 39 percent from the field and 35 percent from three-point range, which leads the team. On the season, she is second on the team in steals with 27 in 18 games.

Under pressure
Seven minutes into Friday’s game, Wichita State (Feb. 21) put on a press that rattled Illinois State, and the Redbirds were never able to regroup, forcing ISU to commit a season-high 30 turnovers, as the Shockers turned the 30 miscues into 38 points. The 38 points off of turnovers for WSU was the most by a Redbird opponent this season. Missouri State (Jan. 27) scored 31 points off of ISU turnovers, which was the previous best by a Redbird opponent.

Hot shooting
ISU’s first five made field goals against Wichita State (Feb. 21) came from three-point range, as Illinois State took a 16-11 lead with 11:15 to play in the opening half. Four different Redbirds connected beyond the arc, as ISU’s first field goal inside the three-point line came at the 10:20 mark by Katy Winge. ISU shot a season-high 73 percent from behind the three-point line, besting 50 percent (8-of-16), which it set against Florida (Nov. 29). Winge was perfect from three-point territory, going 2-of-2, while Lindsay Smith connected on three shots beyond the arc. ISU shot 50 percent (22-of-44) from the field, its third-highest shooting performance of the season.

stopping the offense
Wichita State’s 38 points off of turnovers fueled the WSU offense, as the Shockers put up 85 points against Illinois State (Feb. 21), scoring the most points by a Redbird opponent this season. Northern Iowa scored 83 points against Illinois State during the first week of conference play (Jan. 5), which was the previous high. Wichita State also scored 45 second-half points, the most points scored in a half by an ISU opponent this season, the previous high was 43 by Penn State (Nov. 30).

She can dish it, she can take it
Chloe Nelson has both a selfish and a giving personality. She is first on the team in assists (61) and leads the Redbirds in steals (28) on the season. She has tied her career-high in steals once this season and set a career-high in assists with six against Drake (Jan. 3).
