Valley Weekly Release
ST. LOUIS - Illinois state softball redshirt senior third baseman Sara Bradley is the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the week, as announced by the league office Monday afternoon. It is the second weekly MVC honor of the season for ISU, and first of Bradley's career.
Bradley busted out of a slump at the plate, while playing her trademark stellar third base, in ISU's 2-3 week. The Mattoon, Ill., native hit .500 (7-for-14) with two home runs, five RBI, two doubles, two walks and four runs scored.
After walking in game one of the Redbirds' doubleheader at No. 18/20 Missouri, Wednesday, Bradley broke a seven-game hitless streak with a single in game two. She excelled in Friday's doubleheader against Northern Iowa, combining to go 5-for-7 with two home runs, five RBI, two doubles, one walk and three runs scored, including a career-high three hits in game two. She rounded out the weekend with a one-hit performance in game three, Saturday.
Additionally, Bradley was perfect in 19 chances at the hot corner. She has committed just two errors in 100 chances this season, and has posted a .980 fielding percentage.
Bradley and the Redbirds (10-18, 2-1 MVC) will play their first home games of the season this weekend against Indiana State. ISU will host the Sycamores at Marian Kneer Stadium for a doubleheader, Saturday, before the series concludes with a single game, Sunday.
