NORMAL, Ill. -
The Illinois State women's golf team will head to Beallsville, Md., to compete in the Ninth-Annual Hoya Invitational, its last tournament of the season before the Missouri Valley Conference Championships. The competition will be two days of play, beginning Monday, at The Members Club at Four Streams.
Head Coach Darby Sligh feels optimistic and is looking for her team to make a noticeable impact heading into the championship.
"We are excited to have added this event to our schedule this year," Sligh said. "DC is a wonderful area and this course should play similarly to Panther Creek, where this year's MVC will be held. Our main goal this week is to get back to basics and have fun. Through tough practices this week, we are headed in a very positive direction, and I'm looking forward to seeing us put it all together when it counts."
Leading the Redbirds will be seniors Rachel Powers and Jordyn Wyzgowski, along with juniors Brianna Cooper, Hayley Guyton and Lauren English. This will mark the second time this season that Sligh has competed using this lineup.
Illinois State will compete against 15 other teams across all conferences, including Fairleigh Dickinson, Georgetown, Hofstra, Lehigh, Marshall, Michigan, Navy, Nova Southeastern, Penn, Sacred Heart, Seton Hall, St. John's, Wagner, Yale and Youngstown State.
The first two rounds will begin with a shotgun start Monday morning at 10 a.m. (CST), with the final 18 holes being played Tuesday at 10 a.m. (CST) with a shotgun start.
