NORMAL, Ill. -
The Illinois State women's golf team will head to Rio Verde, Ariz., to compete in the Rio Verde Invitational, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. This will mark the Redbirds fist return to the tournament since they competed in 2009. The 54-hole tournament will be played over three days, 18 holes each day. Friday begins with a 2 p.m. CST shotgun start. Saturday and Sunday are both 9 a.m. CST shotgun starts at the Rio Verde Country Club on the par-71 Quail Run course.
"We are eager to get back on grass and be able to practice and play in warmer weather," head coach Darby Sligh said. "This is a great field to build momentum heading into the middle of our spring season. It is important that we begin to find our stride both mentally and physically."
Competing for the Redbirds will be seniors Rachel Powers, Jordyn Wyzgowski and Carlee Cossell. Juniors Hayley Guyton and Lauren English will round out the upperclassmen line-up.
Illinois State will compete against 17 other schools across all conferences, including Akron, Arkansas-Little Rock, Ball State, Bowling Green State, Bradley, Eastern Michigan, Missouri State, Montana, Northern Arizona, Northern Illinois, Ohio, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Toledo, UMKC, Western Michigan, Wichita State and Xavier.
