NORMAL, Ill. -
After a first-place finish at the Snowman Getaway, the Illinois State men's golf team will head back south to compete in two tournaments over spring break. The Redbirds will compete in the 29th Annual Louisiana Classics, March 10-11, and then at the Seminole Intercollegiate, March 14-16.
The Louisiana Classics will be held at the par-72, 6,898 yard, Oakbourne Country Club in Lafayette, La. The three-round tournament will take place over the course of two days with 36 holes Monday and 18 holes Tuesday.
The Redbirds will then travel east to Tallahassee, Fla., to compete in the Seminole Intercollegiate held at the Southwood Golf Course. Golfers will compete in three rounds over three days at the par-72, 7,172 yard course.
Over the course of these two tournaments, Illinois State will compete against two fiercely competitive fields, which include top-75 ranked teams, including No. 9 Illinois and No. 13 Florida State.
Head coach Ray Kralis looks forward to the strong competition and experiences both tournaments have to offer his squad.
"The team has done a great job capitalizing on opportunities early in the spring semester and continued the momentum from a solid fall," Kralis said. "We are excited to compete and see how we stack up against two strong fields. We'll continue to emphasize using our minds to our advantage and staying in the present, which can be very challenging in the sport of golf. I like the progress I see in the squad and value the fact that this trip will test us and give us the chance to learn a little more about ourselves."
After tying for fourth place on the individual leaderboard at the Snowman Getaway, Parker Freiburg will lead the Redbirds followed by Wils Hawn and Jordan Fahel. Tyler Gentilella and Josh Edison will be competing in the fourth and fifth spots, respectively.
The Redbirds will begin play at the Louisiana Classic Monday with a shotgun start.
