NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois State senior gymnast Kim Caron won the all-around competition with a score of 37.450, but the Redbirds ultimately fell to Southeast Missouri 195.025-192.425 in a dual-meet in Houck Field House on Sunday.
Head coach Bob Conkling felt his team did the best they could to overcome last minute lineup changes due to various injuries.
"It was just one of those meets where things had to be changed last minute and we had to juggle girls around," Conkling said. "However, we had some good things happen like Jenna Bossle having her best bars and beam performances and Danci Cha having her best beam performance to take second place. Overall, I was most pleased with the team's beam performance, but we just gave away too many mistakes and had too many injuries to perform our best. "
ISU began the meet on the uneven bars, where senior Jenna Bossle won the event with a score of 9.850, tying her season-high. However, no other Redbird was able to score above a 9.675, which is uncharacteristic in what is normally a strong event for the team.
Sophomore Danci Cha recorded a career-best 9.850 on the balance beam to earn a second place in the event, and Bossle posted a 9.750 to take fourth. Sophomore Amanda Mohler also added a 9.725 to contribute to a season-high team score of 48.575 on the balance beam.
Sophomore Sarah Fisher led the way for the Redbirds on the vault competition by scoring a 9.750 and tying for third place in the event and senior Kristen Lieberman contributed a 9.625 to add to a team score of 47.975.
The Redbirds compiled a team score of 48.025 on the floor exercise, led by Lieberman and freshman Demi Pas with scores of 9.650, which was a season-high for Pas.
The Redbirds will stay on the road next week when they take on Illinois-Chicago in their dual-meet finale on Saturday, March 15 at 5:00 p.m. ISU will then host the MIC Championships on March 22nd in Horton Field House at 4:00 p.m.
