ST. LOUIS - Illinois State softball pitcher Regan Romshek is the Missouri Valley Conference pitcher of the Week, as announced by the league Monday afternoon. The award is the sophomore's second of the season and her career, and ISU's fourth weekly honor overall.
Romshek continued to establish herself as one of the league's best pitchers by posting a 1.17 ERA in 24.0 innings pitched last week. The sophomore went 3-0 and earned a save in her four appearances, which included a shutout and three complete games. The right hander started the week by surrendering only two earned runs in a complete game win over Bradley, Tuesday. She followed up that performance by allowing only two runs in 17.0 innings pitched during the Redbirds' three-game sweep at Missouri State, during which she earned two wins and a save.
Shortly after earning the honor, Romshek continued her dominance with a second-consecutive shutout in Monday night's 11-0 win over Drake. She now leads the MVC with 17 wins and 205.1 innings pitched, and ranks first among pitchers who have primarily been used as starters with a 2.59 ERA. Romshek has thrown complete games in each of her last nine starts, and is 7-0 with a save in her last eight appearances.
Romshek and the first-place Redbirds will conclude their regular season with a three-game home series against second-place Wichita State this weekend. Whichever team wins the series will claim the MVC regular-season title.
