View Carmichael's 2014 NBA Summer League Stats
LAS VEGAS – For the second-consecutive year, former Illinois State forward Jackie Carmichael showcased his NBA-potential at the Orlando and Las Vegas NBA Summer Leagues.
After playing for the Indiana Pacers in Orlando, July 5-10, Carmichael once again teamed up with the Dallas Mavericks in Las Vegas, July 12-18. With the Pacers, Carmichael started strong in the Orlando league-opener, scoring five points with five rebounds, one assist, one steal and one block during a loss to the Brooklyn Nets (July 5). Carmichael then netted four points with four rebounds to help Indiana top the Boston Celtics (July 7). With limited playing time, Carmichael was held scoreless through his final two contests.
In Las Vegas, Carmichael averaged 5.0 points on 5-for-12 shooting, with 5.3 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.0 blocks per game. The Manhattan, Kan., native recorded a 2014 NBA Summer League season-high six points twice, including in Dallas' win over the Minnesota Timberwolves (July 12), and in the Mavericks' victory over the Phoenix Suns (July 18). Versus Minnesota, Carmichael also collected a season-best seven rebounds with three steals and a block.
Following his senior season at ISU in 2013, Carmichael played for the Miami Heat in last year's Orlando NBA Summer League before joining the Mavericks for the subsequent Las Vegas league. He then signed to play professionally for Bilbao Basket in Bilbao, Spain in September of 2013, before eventually parting ways with the franchise and returning to the United States.
In January, Carmichael signed with the NBA Development League's Iowa Energy – a Memphis Grizzlies affiliate – in Des Moines, Iowa. The 6-foot-9 forward averaged 9.5 points on 50.2 percent shooting with 6.2 rebounds in 37 games. For his efforts, Carmichael was named an All-NBA D-League Third Team selection. Carmichael's former Illinois State teammate, Tyler Brown, also played in the D-League last season for the Maine Red Claws, a Boston Celtics affiliate.
An All-Missouri Valley Conference First Team and All-Valley Tournament honoree for the Redbirds, Carmichael led the Missouri Valley Conference in rebounding and blocked shots in 2012-13. He also ranked fourth in scoring with 17.4 points per game.
Along with holding the Illinois State career-blocked shots record (200), Carmichael ranks eighth on ISU's career-scoring list with 1,580 points, fifth on the career-free throws list with 426, and third on the career-rebounding list with 942. He also ranks third in Redbird career double-doubles (35).
Carmichael, a 2013 Lou Henson All-American, was one of nearly 60 top-prospects invited to the NBA Draft Combine in May of 2013.
