Carmichael to Play Professionally in Israel

RISHON LeZION, Israel – After displaying his skills in the NBA Summer League earlier this month, former Redbird forward Jackie Carmichael has signed to play professionally for Maccabi Rishon LeZion, located in Rishon LeZion, Israel.

Carmichael – who most-recently played for the NBA Development League's Iowa Energy – is embarking on his second professional opportunity overseas, after beginning the 2013-14 season with Bilbao Basket in Bilbao, Spain. Carmichael's new team – Maccabi Rishon LeZion – competes in the top division of Israeli basketball.

The 6-foot-9 forward heads to Israel following stints with the Indiana Pacers and the Dallas Mavericks in the Orlando and Las Vegas NBA Summer Leagues, respectively. In Las Vegas, Carmichael averaged 5.0 points on 5-for-12 shooting, with 5.3 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.0 blocks per game.

Following his senior season at ISU in 2013, Carmichael played for the Miami Heat in last year's Orlando NBA Summer League before joining the Mavericks for the subsequent Las Vegas league. He then signed to play professionally for Bilbao Basket in September of 2013, before eventually parting ways with the franchise and returning to the United States.

In January, Carmichael signed with the NBA Development League's Iowa Energy – a Memphis Grizzlies affiliate – in Des Moines, Iowa. The Manhattan, Kan., native averaged 9.5 points on 50.2 percent shooting with 6.2 rebounds in 37 games. For his efforts, Carmichael was named a 2014 All-NBA D-League Third Team selection.

An All-Missouri Valley Conference First Team and All-Valley Tournament honoree for Illinois State, Carmichael led the Missouri Valley Conference in rebounding and blocked shots as a senior in 2012-13. He also ranked fourth in scoring with 17.4 points per game.

Along with holding the Illinois State career-blocked shots record (200), Carmichael ranks eighth on ISU's career-scoring list with 1,580 points, fifth on the career-free throws list with 426, and third on the career-rebounding list with 942. A 2013 Lou Henson All-American, Carmichael is third in Redbird career double-doubles (35).
