NORMAL, Ill. – Jack Czeszewski has spent his summer as a member of the winningest team in Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League history.
Czeszewski, a member of the Amsterdam (N.Y.) Mohawks, has helped his team to a league-record 36 wins en route to a 36-10 record. After losing six of its first eight games, the Mohawks have gone 34-4, with separate winning streaks of eight, nine and 10 games. The team has not lost back-to-back games since the first week of the season.
Amsterdam scored a 20-5 win over the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs on July 29 to extend its winning streak to six games, breaking the Perfect Game League single-season wins record. The Mohawks are locked in as the East Division's No. 1 seed when the playoffs begin on July 31. They will play their final game of the regular season on July 30, and will play the winner of a play-in game when their opening-round series begins on August 1.
Czeszewski, a rising junior, has been a steady contributor for the Mohawks, hitting .244 with six doubles, 14 RBIs and 17 runs scored in 36 games, including 26 starts. He has been particularly good of late, posting a batting average of .417 and an on-base percentage of .563 over the past week. Czeszewski recorded three doubles, three RBIs and two stolen bases over the stretch.
Czeszewski has played primarily as the team's right fielder this summer. The native of Elk Grove Village, Illinois, batted .241, with an on-base percentage of .395, four home runs and 25 RBIs this spring for the Redbirds.
Czeszewski, however, isn't the only Redbird keeping busy this summer:
