NORMAL, Ill. -Â One of the few bright spots for the Springfield Sliders this summer has been Tyler Feece, a redshirt freshman member of the Redbird baseball team. While the Sliders have been mired in last place in the Prospect League's West Division (6-29 overall through Monday), Feece has quietly put together a strong summer campaign.
The left-hander from Vernon Hills, Illinois, leads Sliders' regulars with a 2.13 ERA and 1.18 WHIP through eight games, including three starts, covering 33.2 innings. He boasts a 2-0 record and one save, while leading the team in wins and innings pitched.
Feece put together his best outing of the season on July 2 against Hannibal, tossing 7.2 innings of scoreless baseball, scattering six hits. He struck out four against two walks in a 4-0 win.
The sophomore left-hander made three scoreless appearances between June 11-19, allowing just six hits and two walks over an 11-inning stretch, while fanning seven.
