NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State volleyball team treated fans to a tightly contested match in its annual Red and White Scrimmage on Saturday at Redbird Arena. The White team topped the Red team in the best-of-three-sets scrimmage, winning by scores of 25-17, 19-25, 28-26.
Freshman Jaelyn Keene tallied nine kills for the White team, while Shalyn Greenhaw, Eliza Smith and Annchara Montgomery chipped in eight apiece. Kaitlyn Early dished out 36 assists for the winning squad, while Stacey Niao led all players with 15 digs.
Emily Schneider led the Red team with 11 kills and nine blocks. Ratasha Garbes distributed 11 assists and Sierra Burris recorded 11 digs.
The Redbirds open the 2014 season Aug. 29 at the Oregon Tournament in Eugene, Oregon, where they will take on Central Arkansas, Ohio State and Oregon over a two-day stretch. Central Arkansas and Oregon both qualified for the NCAA Tournament in 2013.
The Redbirds will return for their home opener on Sept. 9 against Illinois-Chicago.
