Volleyball Team Receives AVCA Team Academic Award

NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State volleyball team has earned the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award for the sixth-consecutive season, the AVCA announced earlier this week.

The award honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that have displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale.

"We are very proud of our student-athletes' excellence in the classroom," said head coach Melissa Myers. "This team continues to prioritize their academics and set a high standard for success."

The Redbirds compiled a team GPA of 3.52 during the 2013-14 academic year. A total of 14 players, including all 2014 returners, achieved a GPA of 3.1 or higher

The Redbirds posted an overall record of 19-13 in 2013. The ISU volleyball team opens its 2014 season on Aug. 29 at the University of Oregon Tournament in Eugene, Oregon.
