Redbirds Traveling to Washington, D.C. for Colonials Challenge

NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State volleyball team will hit the road once again this weekend, as the Redbirds will play three matches over two days at the Colonials Challenge, hosted by George Washington, Friday and Saturday in Washington, D.C.

The weekend tournament will mark the third-consecutive weekend of tournament play for the Redbirds (4-4), who enter the tournament fresh off a 3-0 win over Illinois-Chicago in their home opener Tuesday.

The Redbirds will open the tournament against Baylor (5-2) at 11 a.m. (CST) Friday, before taking on Columbia (3-0) at 4 p.m. (CST) that afternoon. ISU will take on host George Washington (5-1) at 1 p.m. (CST) Saturday.

Illinois State has played Baylor and George Washington once each in program history. The Redbirds took a 3-0 win over Baylor at the Goff/Michigan State Classic on Sept. 2, 1995, and a 3-1 win over George Washington at the Minnesota Invitational on Sept. 17, 1993. The Redbirds have never faced Columbia.

ISU will open play in the Missouri Valley Conference after this weekend's tournament, traveling to Wichita State on Sept. 19, before a match at Missouri State on Sept. 20. Both matches are scheduled for 7 p.m. starts.
