ST. LOUIS – Illinois State swimmer Marissa Yontz has been recognized as the Missouri Valley Conference Swimmer of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.
Yontz, a senior from Canton, Illinois, played a key role in ISU's dual meet victory over Nebraska-Omaha Saturday. Yontz won the 100-yard freestyle (51.75) and was a member of the winning 200-yard freestyle relay (1:37.49) and 200-yard medley relay (1:47.94) teams.
The Redbirds were back in action on Sunday, where they topped a field of six teams at the Butler Invitational. Yontz played a key role again, winning both the 50-yard freestyle (24.56) and 100-yard freestyle (52.86), while coming in second place in the 200-yard freestyle (1:53.45). She was also a member of the 400-yard freestyle relay team that finished in second place (3:34.29).
Illinois State will compete at their final dual meet of the season Saturday, Jan. 31 at Evansville. The meet will begin at 2 p.m.
