Redbirds Set to Compete in Puerto Rico

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – The Illinois State swimming and diving team will ring in the new year with its first meet of 2015 on Sunday at the Copa Coqui Invitational in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Illinois State will compete against 12 programs from across the country. They include Augsburg, Brandeis, Clark, Loyola-Maryland, MIT, Minnesota-Moorhead, St. Cloud, Puerto Rico, South Dakota, Trinity, Connecticut and Wellesley.

Last year, Illinois State placed second overall at the Copa Coqui Invitational. This meet format is different from what the Redbirds are used to, as events are measured in long-course meters rather than short-course yards.

Senior Cecilia Holmes finished first last year in the 200-meter IM (2:30.77). A number of other retuning student-athletes finished among the top performers in individual events last year.

Sunday's meet is the Redbirds' first since competing at the Zippy Invitational at Akron, Dec. 5-7.
