ST LOUIS – Four Illinois State student-athletes from the cross country team were recognized by the Missouri Valley Conference as its 2015 MVC Scholar-Athlete Team announced by the office on Tuesday.
Jeff Bajema, Jesse Hahne, Haley Goers, and Ariel Michalek all earned MVC Scholar-Athlete honors by placing in the top-20 at the conference championships, while holding a high academic standard of at least a cumulative 3.2 GPA and be a sophomore in athletic and academic standing.
Michalek, a junior from Aurora, Illinois, is a recreation and park administration major specializing in therapeutic recreation. She holds a 3.28 GPA. Michalek received All-MVC First-Team as she paced to second place at the conference championships.
Bajema is a safety major and holds a 3.26 GPA. Bajema finished 14th at the conference championships with a time of 24:35 and recieved honorable mention accolades.
Goers is an elementary education major that holds a 3.40 GPA. Goers earned All-MVC First-Team with a sixth-place finish and a personal-best time of 17:17 at the conference championships.
Hahne is an agriculture major specializing in pre-veterinary medicine. He holds a 3.87 GPA. Hahne was a strong fourth-finisher for the Redbirds at the conference championships with a 18th-place finish overall, while earning a personal-best time of 24:43.
