NORMAL, Ill. – Thirteen local food vendors will be featured at the 13th-annual Taste of Redbirds, scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 23 at Horton Field House, prior to the Illinois State versus Northern Iowa men's basketball game on Doug Collins Court at Redbird Arena.
This year's Taste of Redbirds will take place from 12:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m., followed by the men's basketball team's Retro Game against Missouri Valley Conference foe Northern Iowa at 3 p.m., sponsored by Country Financial. Fans who attend the game will also be treated to a special halftime performance by the K9 Crew Trick Dog Show. The first 400 students in attendance will receive a free T-shirt, sponsored by Joe's Station House. Also, as part of an RB4L event, men's basketball alums will be recognized during the Northern Iowa game.
Admission to the Taste of Redbirds is free, but $1 tickets for food and beverages (while supplies last) will be available for purchase at the event. A ticket presale will take place from 11 a.m. until 12:15 p.m. on the west concourse of Hancock Stadium, with all proceeds benefiting Illinois State's Weisbecker Scholarship Fund.
Participating local vendors include: Alexander's Steak House, Avanti's Italian Restaurant, Bandana's Bar-B-Q, BEER NUTS, Buffalo Wild Wings, D.P. Dough, Denny's Doughnuts and Bakery, Edible Arrangements, Famous Dave's, Hy-Vee, Joe's Station House, Moe's Southwest Grill and Times Past Inn. Beer will also be available for purchase (cash only) in the beer garden; however, tickets will not be accepted for purchasing beer, and beer sales will conclude at 2:15 p.m.
Additionally, kids have the chance to experience Reggie's Fun Zone, located in Horton Field House, which includes inflatables by Fun on the Run, a rock climbing wall from Upper Limits, and face painting by The Zoo Lady. Fans will have the opportunity to purchase Redbird gear at the Taste from The Alamo II.
Like last year, fans will be asked to enter the Taste of Redbirds through gates one and four of Hancock Stadium. The gates are located on the west side of Hancock Stadium, attached to Horton Field House.
