SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Illinois State women's tennis team suffered a narrow loss to Missouri State, 4-3, Sunday afternoon.
The Redbirds took an early 1-0 lead, earning the doubles point by defeating Missouri State in all three flights. In No. 1 doubles, junior Kadi Ilves and freshman Donna Haycock topped MSU's Miranda Poile and Ema Turudija, 9-8, while the duo of sophomore Chanel Scudiero and freshman Catherine Shulman beat MSU's Ekaterina Donetskova and Mackenzie Rozell, 8-3, in No. 2 doubles. Likewise, freshman Valerija Gercar and sophomore Natalia Parchowska claimed victory over MSU's Anelisse Torrico and Rebecca McIsaac, 8-5, in No. 3 doubles.
In singles competition, Scudiero forced a third-set tie-breaker before eventually earning a win over MSU's Rozell, 5-7, 6-2, 7-5, in No. 3 singles, while Parchowska defeated MSU's Abbey Belote, 6-3, 6-2, in No. 6 singles. Meanwhile, Ilves fell to MSU's Turudija, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4, in No. 1 singles, while Haycock suffered a defeat by Donetskova, 6-0, 7-5, 7-6 (7-3), in No. 2 singles. In No. 4 singles, MSU's Torrico beat Shulman, 6-4, 6-2, while Gercar was topped by MSU's Poile, 6-2, 6-2, in No. 5 singles.
Up next, the Redbirds will travel to Peoria, Illinois for MVC play against Bradley this Wednesday, April 15, beginning at 3 p.m.
