NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State women's tennis team will battle No. 8 Wichita State, Friday morning at the Missouri Valley Conference Team Championships in Evansville, Indiana. The competition is set to begin at 10 a.m.
The eighth seeded Redbirds are looking for a fresh start entering the tournament after coming off of the regular season at 2-18 overall and 0-7 in the MVC. The last four matches for ISU resulted in narrow losses against MVC opponents Missouri State, Bradley, Evansville and Southern Illinois.
Junior Kadi Ilves has led the Redbirds this season, earning 12 wins at the No. 1 flight in singles competition, including two-consecutive victories last weekend in MVC play. Ilves has competed equally hard in doubles play with partner freshman Donna Haycock, claiming eight victories overall.
Wichita State heads into the tournament at the No. 1 seed after being undefeated in the MVC and 21-3 overall. The Shockers swept ISU, 7-0, during the regular season meeting.
