NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State's Paul DeJong and Jacob Hendren have earned Capital One Academic All-District honors, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Friday. DeJong and Hendren were named to the District 5 First Team.
All first-team selections are now eligible for CoSIDA/Captial One Academic All-America honors.
DeJong, a redshirt junior infielder/catcher from Antioch, Illinois, leads the Illinois State baseball team in most offensive statistical categories, including batting average (.353), slugging percentage (.652), hits (66), runs (46), doubles (14), home runs (14), RBIs (45) and total bases (122). He leads the Missouri Valley Conference in home runs and total bases, and is tied for eighth nationally in home runs.
DeJong owns a 3.79 cumulative grade-point average (GPA) and will receive his bachelor's degree in biochemistry/pre-medicine Saturday.
Hendren, a junior from Le Roy, Illinois, leads the Redbirds in several key pitching categories. He leads the team in wins (9), games started (12) and innings pitched (80.2), and ranks second in strikeouts (71). He is tied for the MVC lead in wins, which is also tied for the sixth-most in all of Division I baseball.
Hendren sports a perfect 4.0 GPA as a mathematics/pre-medicine major.
DeJong and Hendren are back in action on the field this weekend, with a three-game series at Bradley beginning Friday.
