LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Illinois State volleyball team has earned the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award for the seventh-consecutive season, the AVCA announced Wednesday.
The award honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that have displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale.
The Redbirds compiled a team GPA of 3.60 during the 2014-15 academic year, topping the 2013-14 team's mark of 3.52. A total of 16 members of the team maintained a GPA of 3.0 or higher throughout the academic year. Six posted perfect 4.0 GPAs.
The Redbirds won Missouri Valley Conference regular-season and tournament titles, and advanced to the NCAA Tournament's second round in 2014. The ISU volleyball team opens the 2015 season at the Hurricane Invitational, hosted by Miami, Aug. 28-29 in Miami, Florida.
