NORMAL, Ill. — The Illinois State Athletics department is looking for enthusiastic and energetic students to try-out for the chance to be a part of Team Reggie Redbird. Open try-outs are scheduled for Friday, August 28, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Redbird Room inside Redbird Arena.
Reggie Redbird makes appearances at nearly all of ISU's home sporting events, where he can be found cheering on the Redbirds and getting the crowd pumped up. When Reggie is not at a sporting event, he can be seen around the community at various charity and promotional events, school functions and other parties.
To be eligible for try-outs, students must be enrolled in classes full-time at ISU and have a minimum grade-point average (GPA) of 2.5. No prior mascot or cheer experience is required. The try-outs will consist of an in-person interview, improvisational performances that consist of, but are not limited to: skit, crowd engagement and the ISU fight song.
After the initial performance, students will be notified of a second interview by no later than Wednesday, Sept. 2.
