NORMAL, Ill. – The White team topped the Red squad in the Illinois State volleyball team's annual Red and White Scrimmage Saturday at Redbird Arena. The White team won by scores of 30-28, 25-23, 23-25.
Annchara Montgomery led the White team with 16 kills and nine blocks, while Aly Dawson and Ashley Rosch chipped in 10 kills apiece. Jordan Weatherless dished out 32 assists for the winning squad and Rosch led the team with 15 digs.
Jaelyn Keene tallied a match-high 17 kills for the Red team, as Jacqueline Twing distributed a match-high 37 assists. Morgan Mammosser led the Red squad with 13 digs.
The Redbirds will play their first regular-season match on Friday at the Hurricane Invitational, hosted by Miami, in Coral Gables, Florida. Saturday's opponents at the Hurricane Invitational will be Kansas State and Florida A&M.
Illinois State will also travel to tournaments hosted by Harvard (Sept. 4-5) and Dayton (Sept. 18-19), and will host the Country Financial Redbird Classic (Sept. 11-12) at Redbird Arena, all before league play begins in late September.
