NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State student-athletes combined to log 2,666 hours of community service during the 2014-15 academic year, an increase from the athletics program's total the year before.
Student-athletes volunteered their time to benefit several worthy causes over the past year, at events including the Miracle League (in Frisco, Texas), Taste of Redbirds, Recess Buddies, Bloomington Children's holiday party, Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) Trick or Treat for canned goods, and Reggie's Fun Zone.
CJ Hamilton, of the men's track and field team, personally logged 146 hours while volunteering for the Bloomington Crisis Help Line.
Illinois State community service coordinator Savannah McAtee has set a goal of 3,000 community service hours for the 2015-16 academic year, and she encourages Redbird student-athletes to visit the ISU Athletic Study Center's Facebook page to check for upcoming volunteer opportunities.
