ST. LOUIS – Illinois State senior outside hitter Ashley Rosch has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.
Northern Iowa's Amie Held was named the MVC Defensive Player of the Week and Loyola's Amanda Cushen was named the MVC Freshman of the Week.
Rosch turned in one of the best matches of her career to help Illinois State win the Harvard Invitational over the weekend. She set career highs in kills (26), points (31.5) and aces (5) in Illinois State's five-set win over Rutgers, which sealed a perfect 3-0 record and a tournament title for the Redbirds. For the weekend, Rosch tallied 47 kills (4.27 per set) and 31 digs (2.82 per set), and was named the Tournament MVP.
The native of Fox River Grove, Illinois, currently leads the Redbirds with 77 kills (3.50 per set) this season.
Rosch and the Redbirds return to action this week when they host the Country Financial Redbird Classic, Sept. 11-12. Illinois State will welcome in IUPUI, Toledo and Youngstown State for the round-robin tournament.
