NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State women's basketball team will seek a weekend sweep of Missouri Valley Conference games when it hosts Loyola at 2 p.m. Sunday in the team's annual PACK the Arena game on Doug Collins Court at Redbird Arena. Admission is free to all fans attending Sunday's game.
The Redbirds will try to follow up on a strong performance against Bradley Friday night, as the Redbirds scored a 54-49 victory over the Braves in front of 1,142 fans on their home floor.
Illinois State (4-13, 2-4 MVC) was led by Octavia Crump's game-high 16 points in Friday's win. Crump, who spearheaded a 9-0 fourth-quarter run in the victory, also chipped in seven rebounds and a pair of steals. Shakeela Fowler joined Crump in double figures with 12 points.
Colleene Smith turned in an all-around performance with six points, five rebounds and a career-high five steals, as did Viria Livingston, who finished with five points, and team-high totals of four assists and eight rebounds.
Loyola (8-9, 4-2) will enter Sunday's contest on a two-game skid, after suffering a 62-48 loss at Indiana State Friday night. Nieka Wheeler scored a team-high 15 points for the Ramblers in the loss.
Illinois State is 8-1 all-time against Loyola, with the only loss coming last season in Chicago. The Redbirds have never lost to the Ramblers on their home court.
