NORMAL, Ill. – After falling short earlier in the season, the Illinois State gymnastic team's hard work and dedication was shown in Sunday's meet against UIC in Horton Field House, as the Redbirds took the win with a running score of 194.175 against UIC.
"We went into this week of practice talking about positive attitudes from the moment the meet starts till the moment it ends and throughout each routine," head coach Bob Conkling said. "I felt like the girls had great energy during each individual routine as well as the team."
Senior Amanda Mohler came up strong this meet with two first place finishes. She finished with a score of 9.825 on bars to pace the field, and posted a score of 9.825 on beam as well.
"Amanda's routines were definitely two of her best routines of the season, she did absolutely awesome," Conkling said.
Marie Priest also contributed with three events, taking third in each event. On vault she scored a 9.700, on beam a 9.700 and for floor exercise a score of 9.725. Tying for first on floor was Samantha Ward and Sarah Fisher with a 9.750.
"We had so many amazing performances today its hard to just highlight a few," Conkling said. "Today really showed what we are truly capable of and I am just so please with the team and everyone."
The Redbirds return to action Friday, Feb. 5 at 7 p.m. The quad-meet will be hosted in Denton, Texas against Texas Woman's, Auburn and Oklahoma.
