NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State volleyball team will head to Terre Haute, Indiana, for a Missouri Valley Conference clash with league foe Indiana State Friday at 6 p.m. CT.
Illinois State (14-9, 7-4 MVC) will look to build on a successful showing last weekend, as the Redbirds earned sweeps at Bradley and Loyola Chicago. Friday's match at Indiana State (9-13, 3-7) will mark the end of a three-match road swing for the Redbirds, as they are set to return to Redbird Arena next weekend, with matches against Southern Illinois and Evansville.
Illinois State was efficient in its wins last weekend, making quick work of the Braves and Ramblers. Illinois State matched a season high with 11 blocks in the win over Bradley on Oct. 21, before adding six more in the win at Loyola on Oct. 22. Lexi Varga and Aly Dawson contributed 11 and 12 kills, respectively, at Bradley, while Jaelyn Keene led the Redbirds with 11 kills at Loyola.
Courtney Pence led Illinois State in digs in both matches – and continued her streak of leading the Redbirds in digs in every match this season – and was later named the MVC Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, earning the honor for the third time this year.
Friday's match at Indiana State will be the second meeting of the two teams this season. Illinois State earned a 3-0 win over the Sycamores on Sept. 30 at Redbird Arena.
