Softball Capitalizes on Foreign Tour in Mexico

NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State softball team took its fifth foreign tour over fall break playing several games against local teams in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

In addition to playing softball, the Redbirds hosted a softball clinic for the youth in the community.

¡ Vamos a Puerto Vallarta!

During the Redbirds' eight-day trip, they played six games against team Puerto Vallarta.

The Redbirds got settled in on their first day in Puerto Vallarta with practice before sightseeing and their first game on Nov. 20.

After sightseeing and a trip to Sayulita Beach on Tuesday, Illinois State played a doubleheader with two shutout wins the following day.

The team completed a balance of workouts at the outdoor weight room and pool in addition to softball.

On Thanksgiving, the Redbirds hosted a youth clinic, teaching softball to about 20 children in the community before having a Thanksgiving dinner complete with balloon hats and the ISU Fight Song.

The last full day in Puerto Vallarta was spent playing a mixed-team game between teams Puerto and Vallarta. The Redbirds capped off their trip putting their mark on the local graffiti wall that will remain for several years to come.

Illinois State traveled home on Saturday and put a wrap on the program's fifth foreign tour. Click here to full a slide show of images.
