Redbirds Head to Loyola For Important MVC Series

LIVE AUDIO | MELINDA FISCHER SHOW

NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State softball team continues a five-game road trip this weekend at Loyola. The Redbirds will play an important three-game series against the Ramblers Saturday and Sunday. With three weeks remaining in the regular season, both teams are in need of conference wins to solidify their place in the MVC Tournament.

The Redbirds (13-27, 5-9 MVC) are coming off of a 5-3 loss at Bradley Thursday. The Redbirds entered the seventh inning down 5-1 and their comeback attempt fell short. ISU left six runners in scoring position and eight runners on base for the game.

The Redbirds have 11 MVC games remaining this season and ISU currently sits in eighth place in the conference standings. The top eight teams make the MVC Tournament at the end of the season. Loyola is currently in last place.

ISU and Loyola will play two games Saturday with the first game at noon and the second at approximately 2 p.m. Sunday's finale will begin at noon.

Series History

Illinois State leads the all-time series, 9-5, over Loyola. The two teams have played seven times as conference foes and ISU is 4-3 in those contests. The Redbirds won the first four games of the series, which dates back to 1997, and won two out of three last season. Loyola earned a 7-5 victory in the series finale last year in Normal.
