Redbirds in the Pros: Stewart Called up to Triple-A

NORMAL, Ill. – Former Redbird Brock Stewart likely won't be participating in the Texas League All-Star Game June 28, but he is probably just fine with that.

Recently promoted to Triple-A Oklahoma City, Stewart earned the all-star nod for his work at Double-A Tulsa earlier this spring. Stewart was one of three Redbirds named to the Texas League All-Star Game, along with former teammates Eric Aguilera and Paul DeJong.

In his Triple-A debut Tuesday, Stewart earned the win after allowing three runs on five hits and a walk over 5.2 innings of work. He struck out seven Omaha batters as Oklahoma City earned a 9-3 win.

A strong debut by most standards, it was only average in comparison to what Stewart has done across three minor-league levels this spring. The former Redbird made his first two starts at Class A Advanced Rancho Cucamonga this season, before a promotion to Double-A Tulsa on April 15. After nine starts there, he got the call-up to Triple-A Oklahoma City last Friday.

Over the course of three stops, Stewart is 6-3 with a 1.36 ERA and 0.82 WHIP in 12 games, all starting assignments. He has struck out 79 and walked just 13 over 73 innings of work.

Stewart has allowed one or fewer runs in nine of his 12 starts and has yet to allow more than three earned runs in a game.

Stewart is one of 10 former Redbirds currently playing affiliated baseball. They include:
