NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State rising redshirt senior Mitch Weis has kept hitters guessing through his first two starts, leading the Bloomington Bobcats to a pair of wins without allowing an earned run over his first 14 innings of work this summer.
Weis has been named the Midwest Collegiate League Pitcher of the Week following each of the first two weeks of the season. He has allowed just five hits and three walks, while fanning 15 batters, over his first two starts, both of which came against the Northwest Indiana Oilmen.
The native of Ballwin, Missouri, was sharp in his first outing of the season May 27, allowing just one hit and one walk over seven shutout innings, striking out nine along the way. The right-hander allowed four hits, a pair of walks and four unearned runs June 3, but still earned the win, striking out six.
During the 2016 collegiate season, Weis was 0-3 with an 8.15 ERA over eight appearances, including four starting assignments.
