MVC Release
ST. LOUIS – Illinois State's Ali Line has been named the Missouri Valley Conference female Scholar-Athlete of the Week, MVC Commissioner Doug Elgin announced Tuesday.
Line, a sophomore middle blocker on Illinois State's volleyball team, helped her team to a pair of wins over the weekend at Middle Tennessee's Blue Raider Bash by tallying 20 kills (2.00 per set) on a .417 hitting percentage, to go along with 11 blocks (1.10 per set), three assists and two digs.
Line turned in her best performance of the weekend in Illinois State's sweep of Tennessee Tech on Saturday, as the sophomore middle hitter registered 10 kills on 13 attempts without an error, good enough for a .769 hitting percentage, tied for the ninth-highest single-match mark in program history. Line, who was a perfect 7-for-7 through two sets of play against Tennessee Tech, also added four blocks in the win.
A standout in the classroom as well, Line owns a perfect 4.00 grade-point average as a nursing major.
To qualify for Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week honors, student-athletes must carry a cumulative GPA of 3.20 or higher, completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing.
Redshirt freshmen and first-year junior college transfers are not eligible. In addition to the academic qualifications, student-athletes will be evaluated on their athletic performance for a one-week period.
Illinois State has claimed the MVC's female Scholar-Athlete of the Week award for the second week in a row. Line's Redbird volleyball teammate Jaelyn Keene claimed the honor last week.
