NORMAL, Ill. – After taking the win in the four-team meet at the Ozone Collegiate Gymnastics Classic in Knoxville, Tennessee, the Illinois State gymnastics team travels to Bowling Green, Ohio, to take on Bowling Green State. The meet against the Falcons will be on Saturday, Jan. 21, beginning at 4:30 p.m. at Anderson Arena.
"We are excited to compete against Bowling Green State this weekend", head coach Bob Conkling said. "They are a strong team and we will need to have a solid meet. We will need to build on our successes last weekend and the entire team needs to compete with confidence."Â
The Redbirds took the win in last Saturday's meet with a score of 192.550. Sophomore Meredith LaRoche, who was named the Midwest Independent Conference (MIC) Gymnast of the Week, won the all-around competition with a score of 38.925, with first-place ties of 9.750 on the floor and a recorded score of 9.700 on the beam.
Freshman Gabrielle Cooke placed second overall in the all-around with a score of 38.300. Fellow freshman Anna Marema had a first-place finish on the bars with a score of 9.800.
"We have focused on beam this week, because it was our lowest scoring event," Conkling said. "The work is paying off and the routines on beam are looking a lot stronger. Our goal is to do clean and aggressive routines and have at least five hit routines on every event."Â
