FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Illinois State men's tennis team fell, 6-1, at No. 19 Arkansas Sunday at the Dills Indoor Tennis Center. The Redbirds fell to 1-2 overall, with both losses occurring against nationally ranked teams.
"Considering the short amount of time we've had to prepare for this week of matches, I was very impressed with the attitude we showed on the court and with how well we competed in each match," said head coach Mark Klysner. "Now we will take what we learned from this trip and apply it to the matches next weekend."
Peter Foersom earned the sole Redbird victory of the day by winning his No. 6 singles match against Jacob Herndon, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2.
Arkansas started the match by earning the doubles point, as Andreas Boers and Urh Krajnc Domiter fell to Jose Salazar and Oscar Mesquida, 6-4, Peter Foersom and Egehan Sertkaya lost to Johan den Toom and Branch Terrell, 6-2, and Jacob Herndon and Austin Robles defeated Dylan Steffens and Matias Chomali, 6-2.
In singles play, Krajnc Domiter fell to Jose Salazar, 6-4, 6-0, Steffens was defeated by Oscar Mesquida, 7-5, 6-2, Boers fell to Adam Sanjurjo in a three set match, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, Sertkaya fell to den Toom, 6-2, 6-1, and Chomali fell to Branch Terrell 6-1, 6-2.
