NORMAL, Ill.-- A trio of Redbirds were selected to the Academic All-America team, this includes juniors Tin Ostro (Zagreb, Croatia), Caden Scarlett (Evansville, Indiana) and Tomas Valencia (Santiago, Chile).
Head coach Mark Klysner is proud of the resilience from this group "I couldn't be more proud of these three young men and their accomplishments thus far. They worked so hard for this program and it's nice to see them recognized for the work they put in." Klysner said.
The 2024-25 Academic All-District® Men's and Women's Tennis Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
Ostro was named a All-Summit League Athlete of Champions Selection while also receiving Summit League First team Honors. He finished his junior campaign with a 8-11 singles record while going 3-6 in doubles action alongside Caden Scarlett. Ostro secured key wins over Marquette (6-4, 6-1), New Mexico State (6-2, 7-6 (3-0)) and Western Michigan (7-5,
Scarlett finished the season 3-12 in singles play while going 4-13 in doubles competition. Scarlett earned non-conference doubles wins over Ball State and Western Michigan. Picked up a key SUMMIT League win against Drake on March 26, 2025 alongside Tin Ostro at the No. 2 position by a score of 7-5.
Valencia was selected to the All-Summit League First team, concluding the 2024-25 season with a 9-9 record in singles play, while going 7-12 in doubles play primarily at the No. 1 position with Adrian Dibildox. In singles play picked up wins over Saint Louis University and Drake. In doubles competition, Valencia and Dibildox (Monterrey, Mexico) secured non-conference wins against Western Michigan (Mid-American Conference) and New Mexico State (C-USA).
