NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State volleyball team was successful both on and off the court this fall, as the Redbirds set a team grade-point average (GPA) record during the fall semester.
The 14 members of the Redbird volleyball team combined to post a 3.68 GPA, topping the previous mark of 3.65, set during the Spring 2013 semester. Seven members of the team posted perfect 4.0 GPAs during the fall semester and 13 were named to the AFNI Honor Roll.
"The team set a goal to break the previous record and it's rewarding to see them work to accomplish it, especially during our competitive fall season," said Illinois State head coach Melissa Myers. "I'm confident this has only motivated them to set the bar higher."
The Redbird volleyball team helped contribute to the larger success of the entire athletics department, as a record 312 total student-athletes were named to the AFNI Honor Roll. The departmental GPA of 3.23 also matched the program record, set last spring.
The Illinois State volleyball team concluded the 2016 season in November, finishing the season in the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament semifinals.
