NORMAL Ill. – After an away meet against Bowling Green, the Illinois State gymnastics team is ready to bring it home to host UIC Sunday, Jan. 29, in Horton Field House beginning at 6 p.m. for its annual Pink Meet.
The team encourages everyone in attendance to wear pink to help those who have battled and are still battling cancer. Admission is free for all fans and pink lemonade will be served for $1 at the concession stand.
"The team is especially excited to finally have a home meet," ISU head coach Bob Conkling said. "We know UIC will be strong and we must be consistent throughout the entire meet. The team has focused on being consistent every turn and every routine this week in practice."
The Illinois State gymnastics team took second in last weekend's meet with a score of 192.550, and Bowling Green took first with a score 193.925. Freshman Gabrielle Cooke won the all-around competition with a score of 38.800, aided by a score of 9.800 on the beam to finish in a tie for third place.Â
"The team has focused on being consistent every turn and every routine this week in practice," Conkling said. "Gabrielle (Cooke) and Meredith LaRoche have both looked strong on all four events this week in practice."
UIC is ranked third in the MIC for the second-straight week with an average team total of 191.858. Jenna Squillo has claimed a spot on the MIC leaderboards, ranking seventh on bars with an average of 9.683, followed by teammate Serena Baker in ninth averaging 9.662.
