TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Illinois State women's soccer team (8-6-2, 2-2 MVC) fell to Indiana State (6-7-1, 1-3 MVC) Saturday night, 2-1, at Memorial Stadium in Terre Haute.
The start of the match was a slow one with the first real shot on goal not coming until the 13th minute of the match when the Redbirds took the 1-0 lead. Sophomore Mikayla Unger put the ball away off a slot pass from senior Kelli Zickert inside the 18. Back-to-back goals in the 31st minute gave the Sycamores a 2-1 advantage going into half.
The second half proved to be a battle of possession on both sides of the ball. The teams ended with an even 9 in shots and even 3 in corners for the match. Three Redbirds all had multiple shots with three more tallying at least one. Unger and Zickert led the Redbirds offensively, each tallying two shots on top of their goal and assist.
The Redbirds continue road play when they face Valley newcomer Valparaiso on Wednesday, October 18. The match is set for 7 p.m. in Valparaiso, Indiana.
