NORMAL, Ill. – Fresh off a pair of Missouri Valley Conference wins on its home floor over the weekend, the Illinois State volleyball team will hit the road for a league match at Indiana State Monday night. The match begins at 6 p.m. CT and will be broadcast live as part of The Valley on ESPN3.
Illinois State (11-9, 4-3 MVC) earned wins over Loyola Chicago and Valparaiso on Friday and Saturday, respectively, to climb above .500 in the league rankings. The Redbirds dispatched the Ramblers in straight sets on Friday before grinding out a comeback win over the Crusaders Saturday night at Redbird Arena.
Indiana State (5-13, 3-3) was swept in both of its matches over the weekend, falling to MVC unbeatens No. 21 Northern Iowa and Drake on its home floor.
"We want to build off the weekend momentum as we take on Indiana State on the road," said Illinois State head coach Leah Johnson. "We are finding a steady groove and want to keep climbing. Playing on the road is always tough so we have to be our best, especially in this great league."
Illinois State was led by Jaelyn Keene in both its matches over the weekend. Keene tallied a team-high 12 kills in the victory over Loyola before setting a career high and matching an Illinois State Redbird Arena record with 29 kills in the win over Valpo.
Illinois State has a decided advantage in the all-time series against Indiana State. The Redbirds are 59-8 all-time against the Sycamores, with a current six-match winning streak.
